Maryland received $3.3 million dollars from the Institute for Museum and Library Services in 2025, but the Trump administration has since tried to completely defund the agency. Signs of potential congressional funding have given library advocates hope, but the Allegany County Library’s Ashley Swinford says they are not overly concerned since most of their funding is local or from the state…
“At this time, it’s not at the top of our concern list, mainly because they’re grant funds – when we do see federal funding for libraries here at Allegany County, it’s mainly a grant. It’s not something we rely on annually.”
