Shop Maryland Tax Free Week begins this Sunday and runs through August 16 ahead of the new school year. With costs continuing to go up, Comptroller Brooke Lierman encourages shopping during the tax holiday as a way for Marylanders to save money and keep the economy moving. Shoppers will not pay the state 6% sales and use tax for clothing and shoes priced under $100 and the first $40 for backpacks. The tax holiday started in 2007.
