McKay Pushing For State Growth

June 27th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Governor Wes Moore’s hiring freeze in the state, announced earlier this week, is probably only the first of cost-saving measures Maryland will be announcing. Heavily dependent on the federal government, a special legislative session may be called to make further cuts or fee and tax increases.  Senator Mike McKay says it is time for Maryland to get very serious about attracting business…

“Look at every opportunity for economic development so we can have a tax base that’s built upon the taxes that businesses pay because the businesses then hire people and then it’s not relying on the local government to tax its residents.”

The Senator said residents have run out of cash to help the state’s spending…

“The taxpayers of Maryland, there aren’t dollars in their pocket, there isn’t coin in their pockets. There may be some lint – but last time I checked, lint is not on my deposit slip at the bank.”
