Cumberland’s Police Department has yet to release information regarding a large public disturbance that occurred Saturday morning just before 1:40 a.m. in the Merchants parking lot in downtown Cumberland. The Joint Communication Center received multiple 911 phone calls regarding a large crowd of over 30 individuals yelling and screaming with 5 individuals fighting in the parking lot. The crowd began to disperse when sirens from a law enforcement began to approach the scene. A patrol officer arrived and briefly spoke with members of the crowd. The officer departed and a second crowd quickly gathered with additional fighting, vandalism and destruction of property occurring. Law Enforcement was again dispatched to the scene just before 2:00 a.m. A review of video camera footage does not indicate any arrest being made by officers. WCBC News has requested information from the Cumberland Police Department regarding the incident; however, no information has yet been provided.
