It is going to be another pre-Labor Day start for local students in the next school year. The Allegany County Board of Education unanimously approved the 2023-24 school calendar at a meeting last week. In 2016, then Governor Larry Hogan, pointing to tradition, advocated that school systems start the school year after the holiday, saying a longer summer break would benefit families, businesses and the state’s tourism industry. While many school systems across the state have opted for a post Labor Day start- the Allegany County schedule for students will begin August 23rd. For inclement weather days, the calendar has three asynchronous learning days with students using the Schoology platform, and if additional inclement weather days occur, there is an additional five synchronous learning days with virtual real time instruction with a teacher…
