American Red Cross home fire responses spike nearly 20% during the holiday season, primarily from cooking and heating fires. Nearly 600 people yearly rely on the Red Cross after home fires in a typical November and December. Jason Keeling of the Red Cross says families should check smoke detectors frequently and caution taken with both electric and wood heating sources…
“It’s essential that homeowners pay attention to how close anything flammable is to electricity or wood stoves, making sure they’re adhering to any recommendations about how to properly use those heating devices.”
