Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman has announced the state’s annual sales tax holiday on select items will begin Sunday, August 10, 2025.  Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week will run through Saturday, August 16.  During Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, shoppers do not pay the state’s 6% sales tax for clothing and shoes priced under $100 and the first $40 for backpacks purchased during this period. The sales tax will be waived regardless of the number of items purchased.  The annual sales tax holiday was established by state law in 2007 and coincides with the weeks leading up to the start of a new school year in Maryland.
