October 20th through the 24th is National School Bus Safety Week. Over 150 individuals in Allegany County serve as bus drivers and aids. The Allegany County Board of Education presented Mike Matthews, County Supervisor of Transportation, with this year’s “School Bus Safety Week” proclamation during Tuesday’s board meeting. Matthews said last school year, their bus drivers traveled nearly 1.5 million miles, and asked motorists to remain aware while on the road…
“I like to remind all motorists to stop for any school bus stopped school bus that has it’s red warning lights flashing. It is state law. The most dangerous time for a school bus is not when it is traveling on the roadway. The most dangerous time is when it is stopped on the roadway, picking up or dropping off students.”
