On December 19, 2025, at approximately 9:15 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 68 near Old Cumberland Road, Flintstone, Allegany County, MD.
A 2021 International tractor-trailer, operated by a 25-year-old male from Charlotte, North Carolina, lost control for reasons that remain under investigation and left the roadway, striking a bridge abutment.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 68 were closed for an extended period to allow the Maryland State Police Aviation Command to transport the driver to a medical facility for treatment of injuries, as well as to facilitate roadway cleanup.
No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Maryland State Highway Administration was deployed for bridge inspection to determine the extent of the damage to the structure.
