For many, the thought of having a heart catheterization is daunting. However, innovations in the procedure have taken some of the anxiety away from patients. At the UPMC Western Maryland Heart and Vascular Institute, Dr. Hani Alkhatib who directs the structural heart program says these new innovations help lessen the stress of the diagnostic procedure…

   

“For the ones that don’t have a history of bypass surgery, it becomes much easier. I would say 95% of our procedures or the procedures that I perform at least are through the arm or through the wrist.”
