Experts: More Habitat Needed For Monarchs

Monarch butterfly populations saw an uptick in 2025, a second year of growth since a near record low. Experts are asking people to support the butterflies by planting more habitat.  Monarch butterfly populations have declined significantly since the 1980s.  Kristen Baum with Monarch Watch says providing habitat such as milkweed and nectar sources as well as waystations help the butterflies survive…

“Getting habitat out there on the ground is a big one, and every little bit helps, even if you just live in an apartment and have a pot of some nice fall flowering Asters on your patio. You might get some visitation as well.”
