April through September is Tick Season

With summer outdoor adventures comes the reminder to be aware of ticks. According to the Centers for Disease Control, April through September is the prime time to find a tick in grassy, bushy, or wooded areas as well as on pets. If an attached tick is found, Dr. Bobby Mikamala President of the American Medical Association says going to the ER is unnecessary for the removal, but it must be removed immediately…
“You don’t whack it like a fly on your skin, you have to pull it off. And if for some reason we didn’t notice it and it starts to get a little bit red, especially in the center of it, that’s when we should go in to get medical care because that’s a pretty easy thing to fix so it doesn’t cause something like Lyme Disease. A regular antibiotic like Doxycycline which we use all the time for different things can kill this thing.”
