County Receives Grant For Homeless Services

The Allegany County Commissioners approved receipt of a grant of nearly $362,000 to help with homeless services for the coming year. David Nedved, Community Development representative said the Homelessness Solutions Program funding is used by HRDC and county social services…

“It’s rental assistance or helping with their deposits. In some rare cases, it can be helping them maybe move, find a different place. The short of it is it keeps people from being out on the street.”

The program has existed in different forms since 1986…

“It’s been part of the HSP program for the last nine years, prior to that it was called the Emergency Solutions grant program for seven years and prior to that the county was the grantee for something called the Emergency Shelter program and that was for 21 years.”
