The U.S. House Subcommittee on Immigration Security heard testimony Tuesday on sanctuary policies. Sheriffs from across Maryland including Sheriff Craig Robertson were present in support of Harford Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler. In testimony, Gahler told the committee Maryland’s Community Trust Act makes his job difficult…

“Making it illegal for my deputies to coordinate or even communicate with certain federal law enforcement agencies. We learned so much better than that after 9/11, but we’ve forgotten.”

Gahler said immigrations enforcement working apart from sheriffs is not safe…

“Much safer to turn over that individual after they are in custody, in a cell, been searched. One on one, open the cell door, bring ICE in, put them in the custody of ICE, that transfer is so much safer.”
