City Parks Suffer Vandalism

Vandalism has taken its toll at two separate parks in Cumberland.  In the North End, the Jaycee Recreation area on Furnace Street suffered severe damage, according to City Councilman Rock Cioni…

“It suffers terrible vandalism. Last night, city administrator Jeff Silka was telling us someone broke in there, stole the hot water tank, stole all the copper, put a hole in the brand new roof that we had on the dugout.”

Cioni added the new skatepark in South Cumberland also was misused and the city is looking at ways to protect the area…

“City administrator Silka thinks that rather than a fence that might detract from the overall appearance, we’ll put some kind of big boulders or something around there.”
The skatepark is open and the Jaycee Field area will become a grass practice field.
