Mayor Responds To Candidate On Bridges

WCBC’s story with mayoral candidate Darrell Powell prompted a call from incumbent mayor Ray Morriss on Thursday. West Side residents received a letter from Powell saying inferring that Morriss’ connections with CSX would get the bridges rebuilt. Morriss talked with WCBC, saying the federal and state process for things such as bridges can be a years-long affair…
“I think its important for residents of the city to understand that by using the federal process, that significantly reduced any cost to the city and that was the right way to go. Otherwise, the city would have been paying, well, probably, six to eight million dollars per bridge.”
Morris also said his job as a CSX Superintendent would not have given him the pull to get bridges rebuilt…
“These levels are in the CEO Suite where these decisions are being made through the legal department, not at a level I obtained at CSX.”
