4 Quinnipiac Defeats Acrobatics & Tumbling in Top-10 Matchup

The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team lost their second consecutive road meet to a top-five program, falling 267.785-260.800 against No. 4 Quinnipiac.

Each team put up solid scores in the first three heats of the compulsory event, with FSU topping out at 9.9 in the pyramid and QU earning a 9.85 in the toss, as the hosts went on to win the event 37.2-36.3.

Frostburg began the acro event strong, scoring a 9.25 in the 5-element, but Quinnipiac followed up with scores of 9.25 and 9.3 in the 6- and 7-element, respectively, though the visitors were still able to take the event narrowly 27.05-26.80.

The sides were nearly perfectly matched in the pyramid event, with FSU just hedging a 29.3-29.25 advantage, as neither team scored below a 9.65. In the open pyramid, Frostburg scored an impressive 9.9, while Quinnipiac topped out at a 9.8 in the inversion heat. Despite only winning one of the first three events, QU still held a close lead at halftime 93.25-92.65

As they had for the previous three events, not much was able to separate the teams in the toss event, as Quinnipiac narrowly won 27.7-27.35, using a 9.55 in the 450 salto toss to their advantage. FSU's top mark came in the open heat, scoring a 9.65.

QU was finally able to get a bit of breathing room in the tumbling event, using scores above 9.425 in each of the individual passes to go with a 9.3 in the duo pass for an event win of 54.575-52.400. Frostburg's best score came in the open pass at 9.65.

Having a slightly more comfortable lead going into the team event, Quinnipiac proved their top status, outscoring FSU 92.26-88.40 to win the meet 267.785-260.800.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 6-2 on the year, while QU improves to 4-1. FSU will return to the mat for their final regular season meet on the road against Glenville State on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
