40 New COVID Cases, 1 Additional Death in Allegany County

The Allegany County Health Department reported 40 new COVID cases in Allegany County and one additional death.  This brings the county’s cumulative case count to 5,839 with 165 deaths.  Currently, the county’s case rate is significantly lower than the state average.  The current case rate in Allegany County is 38.34 cases per 100,000 population, while Maryland’s state average is currently 51.85 cases per 100,000 population.  Allegany’s positivity rate is now at 6.18%, while the statewide average is 8.3%. 

 

Currently, the health department is vaccinating Allegany County residents age 75 and older, but all appointments are filled at this time.  More appointment dates will be announced when additional vaccines are received.  Also, as additional vaccination priority groups open up, that information will distributed through local media and the health department website (https://health.maryland.gov/allegany) and social media (https://www.facebook.com/AlleganyHlthMD and https://twitter.com/AlleganyHltMD).

There will be no COVID-19 testing at the Allegany County Fairgrounds and no media release on Monday, January 18 due to the MLK holiday.
