August 29th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

On August 28th, 2021, Cumberland City Police Officers on patrol in the area of N. Centre St. observed a male subject walking in that area who was known to have an active Bench Warrant issued for their arrest for failing to appear in District Court. Officers stopped and contacted the male, Nicholas Craig Moreland, 30, of Cumberland MD. As officers awaited the confirmation of the warrant, Moreland became agitated and was refusing to comply with the officer’s commands. Moreland was then informed he was under arrest and ordered to place his hands behind his back. He then pulled away from the officers and attempted to flee the area on foot. Moreland was able to be apprehended a short time later and taken into custody. At that time, Moreland was also found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamines and Oxycodone. Moreland was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a total of $4,000 bond.
