Western Maryland Spared This Summer’s Brood

January 25th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Western Maryland can breathe a sigh of relief that the expected cicada emergence this spring and summer will not be in this area.  A rare combination of two broods of the insects is expected to awake from their multi-year slumber, but they will be spending their above-ground time in far southern Maryland – Brood 19 will be mostly located in Saint Mary’s County and Northern Virginia.  Both Brood 19 and the Northern Illinois brood will be present in Central Illinois through the summer.
