ACPS Ranks in Top 10% of School Districts for Commitment to Whole-Child Education

Allegany County Public Schools’ dedication to providing an evidence-informed education that prepares students for success in the real world has led it to earn, for a second consecutive year, the annual EVERFI Empowered Seal.

Now in its third year, the EVERFI Empowered Seal is a designation awarded to public school districts that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to comprehensive education strategies on topics such as financial literacy, health, and careers.

“We are extremely pleased that ACPS has been recognized for the second consecutive year for our commitment to whole-child education,” said Dr. Kim Kalbaugh, ACPS Chief Academic Officer.
“EVERFI provides resources that engage students with real-life scenarios and authentic application to their lives.  Students make deeper connections in their understanding of areas such as financial literacy, health, and social emotional learning.” Dr. Kalbaugh went on to say, “I want to acknowledge our school-based administrators for their leadership in coordinating these experiences and for the teachers who are facilitating the lessons.  Finally, I also want to express our appreciation to EVERFI and their financial sponsors for providing these resources to our school district.”

Washington Middle School principal, Mrs. Kendra Kenney, echoed those sentiments, “EVERFI, via their virtual programs, has helped our school provide students with opportunities to learn about being financially responsible consumers and business people. Students have enjoyed learning financial literacy skills through real life practices and experiences where they can see how their financial decisions affect themselves and others.”

In addition to being recognized nationally for their work, the Empowered Seal provides Allegany County Public School students with the opportunity to participate in the Empowered Seal Scholarship contest. Ten students from across the country will be selected as winners, with two students winning a $1,000 scholarship and eight students each winning a $500 scholarship. Contests will be held in the fall and spring.
