November 18th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Commissioners are proud to partner with Jones Development Company, LLC, to build a 193,000 square foot distribution center on 40 acres of privately owned land on Maryland Route 51. Since 1977, Jones Development, headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas, has demonstrated the exceptional skills and experience to deliver 17.5 million square feet of building space and $1 billion of investment in 42 states for their national-based industrial tenants.

Jones Development will lease the property to FedEx Ground to operate a distribution center here in Allegany County. Jacob C. Shade, President, of the Board of County Commissioners, stated “I join with my fellow County Commissioners, Creade V. Brodie, Jr. and David J. Caporale, to warmly welcome Jones Development and FedEx Ground to Allegany County. These high caliber companies recognize that Allegany County is a great place to do business. We will continue to promote opportunities for all types of commercial entities, new entrepreneurs and established companies, to locate and expand here. Landing this project is a huge win for all of us in Allegany County and one to build-upon in the future." Jeffrey S. Barclay, Allegany County's Director of Economic & Community Development emphasized: "We are excited about this new project in Allegany County. It will be a significant addition to the local economy. There certainly will be a large number of construction jobs needed. But most importantly, the company's operations are expected to employ a mix of full and part-time team members at the facility."

Barclay continued: “We strived to make this project viable for the developer and their client. We succeeded with our straight-forward approach. I commend the FedEx Ground team for being fair and gracious throughout our negotiations. FedEx Ground demonstrated that it is community-minded and they look forward to having a larger presence in the community."
