Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Bomb Threat at Circuit Court

Allegany County Sheriff's Office is investigating a bomb threat made at the Allegany County Circuit Court.

At approximately 0830 hours, on Friday, September 15, 2023, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office received a report that a bomb threat was called in at the Allegany County Circuit Court located at 30 Washington Street, Cumberland, Maryland. The Circuit Court building was immediately evacuated, and staff were transported out of the vicinity. 

Law enforcement officers from Cumberland Police and Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, established a perimeter and the immediate area was shut down. Buildings and residences in close proximity were contacted, informed of the threat, and evacuated.

Maryland State Police and Maryland Division of Corrections responded with explosive sniffing canines who conducted a thorough search of the interior and exterior of the Court building. Nothing dangerous or suspicious was located and no device was located. An all-clear was subsequently given for staff to re-enter the building. 

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office Deputies then disseminated information and reopened the area. The area was closed for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the caller who made the threat.
