The free public concert will feature 34 student musicians selected through competitive auditions. Retired ACPS band teachers Tom Harrison, a jazz pianist and lecturer in Frostburg State University's music department, and Jim Roderick, a jazz guitarist, conducted auditions for middle and high school students. Seventeen middle school musicians were selected for the Junior Jazz Band (grades 7-9), and 17 high school students were chosen for the Senior Jazz Band (grades 10-12). Selected musicians will participate in a two-day jazz festival Dec. 2-3, working with guest conductors in intensive rehearsals before the evening performance. Andrew Mitroff, a retired band teacher from Baltimore County, will conduct the Junior Jazz Band. Dr. Brent Weber, chair of FSU's music department and accomplished jazz saxophonist, will lead the Senior Jazz Band.

The concert is free and open to the public. ACPS encourages the community to experience live jazz and support music education in public schools. For more information, visit acpsmd.org or follow Allegany County Public Schools on social media.
