August 28th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

On August 27th,2022,  The Maryland State Police, and Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to the 12000blk of Bowling Street, Cumberland, MD for a reported armed robbery. Almost immediately upon arriving  officers were directed to a McMullen Highway address as the possible suspect location.

It was learned that a male subject had displayed a handgun to the victim and ordered him to surrender his car keys.  The subject then forced the victim to a different location in the home where he ordered him to remain.  The suspect then exited the home and began to flee.

As the suspect fled he was pursued by a citizen which led to the abandonment, and later recovery of the stolen property and handgun. An inspection of the handgun revealed that the serial number had been removed and at least one part was missing.

Deputies and Troopers were able to make contact with the suspect at the McMullen Highway home. After being positively identified as the responsible party he was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.

As part of the Detention Center intake policy the suspect submitted to a contraband scan of his body using X Ray.  As a result of the scan a Correction Deputy noticed a foreign object concealed. After recovering the item it was determined to be a missing part of the handgun.

Units on the scene were assisted by the Cumberland Police Department, Maryland State Police aviation, and Allegany County Joint Communications Center.    The suspect was ordered held without bond after an initial appearance at the District Court Commissioner's Office.
