April 27th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

On 04/25/2016 the Cumberland Police responded to a complaint about an Allegany High School student who was allegedly making threats to harm students and staff at the school. A joint investigation involving the Cumberland Police, the school resource officers, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, the Allegany County Public School System, and Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was initiated.

Through the investigation it was learned that a 15 year old 9th grade student had sent text messages to several friends and acquaintances indicating that he was planning to come to school in the near future and harm students and staff. C3I Investigators and Deputies responded to the suspect's residence and made contact with the suspect. Investigators spoke with the suspect and conducted a consent search of the residence. No weapons were located.

Although Investigators determined that the student did not have the means to carry out the threat, the suspect was taken into custody at that time. Charges are pending. C3I Investigators have investigated rumors that other individuals may be involved, but have found no credible evidence at this time that there are any other suspects connected to the incident. Law enforcement gave credit to the students who first received these texts for coming forward with the information, resulting in a prompt response to the situation. The investigation is continuing.
