An amicus brief filed by Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown supports Anne Arundel County’s efforts to increase awareness of suicide risk by placing available resources at the point of sale of firearms and ammunition. The county is currently involved in a lawsuit that is before the US Court of Appeals regarding the location of such materials with plaintiffs saying the pamphlets violate store owners First Amendment rights. Attorney General Brown says that Education, awareness, and community support play critical roles in recognizing the warning signs of suicide and equipping individuals with support and interventions needed to prevent such tragedies.
