On 03/24/2023 at 4:23 PM the Frostburg Police responded to a reported shooting which had occurred on Bowery Street near the intersection with McCulloh Street. When Officers arrived they found a 38 year male old victim, who had fled to a nearby business for assistance, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The victim, a Frostburg resident, was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at UPMC – Western Maryland for treatment of his injuries.
Officers quickly located a suspect nearby and were able to take him into custody at that time. The handgun believed to have been used was recovered at that time from the suspect.
The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted and C3I investigators responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Numerous witnesses were interviewed and investigators learned that there had been an altercation on Bowery Street between the suspect and the victim just prior to the shooting.
The suspect was identified as 23 year old Raeshaun Demonte Cody, of Hyatsville, MD. He is being charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and 1st Degree Assault. He is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Assistance was provided at the scene by the Frostburg State University Police. The investigation is continuing by the Frostburg Police and C3I.
