September 16th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

The Frostburg State Volleyball team swept D'Youville 3-0 in their second game on Friday night at the Crimson Hawk Classic.
.
Frostburg had a long break between game one and two to get the wind back in their sails from their five-set loss to Jefferson. They were well rested and ready to compete, beginning with a kill from senior Beverly Braun to start the action for FSU. D'Youville gave Frostburg some competition early in the set, as scores were traded back and forth until FSU took over and created a nine-point lead at 16-7. The Saints battled back, oustcoring the Bobcats 11-9 the rest of the way, but FSU had built enough of a lead to win 25-18.

Two points were earned by the Saints to start the second set, but would be the only momentum they had in the set. Freshman Brenna Siperko, senior Hayley Delor and Braun were imposing on offense, going up 9-2 and forcing the Saints to take a timeout. Points were swapped by both teams, but FSU continued their momentum and dominance. Frostburg held D'Youville to just seven more points in the set, while scoring 16 of their own. The set was won 25-9 by FSU off a service ace from Delor.

Set three began with two strong kills and once again, the Saints were first to score, but FSU battled back and tied up the game 2-2 after a block by freshmen Paige Mock and Maya Johnson. Points were traded until the Bobcats pulled away after the game was tied 11-11. FSU led by six points until the Saints started to get back on the attack. D'Youville tried but was unsuccessful in getting the lead back, as FSU played unstoppable offense, winning the final set 25-16.

Overall, Braun was leader in kills with 10 to go with five aces, followed by junior AJ Thompson right behind her with six, and Mock after her with four, who also had a match-high five blocks. Delor had 22 asssists and seven digs, tying Braun and junior Fiona Gonzalez Medina for the team lead.

With the conclusion of the second game Frostburg moves to a record of 6-5 while D'Youville falls to a record of 2-7. Frostburg will retake the court on Saturday September 16 at 1pm and 7pm as they take on Shepherd and IUP. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
