February 16th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

A very busy Wednesday for Allegany County Emergency Services battling two large brush fires, a house fire and unintended trash fire as well as a missing juvenile. Kicking off yesterday afternoon with the fire and Corriganville area along Mount Savage and later a second fire along Mountain Ridge Road area of Rawlings. Low humidity Gusty winds and dry ground conditions for a second straight day make a dangerous combination for brush fires in our region.

Firefighters from Allegany and Garrett County along with fire crews from Pennsylvania and West Virginia responding to the Corriganville fire. An hour later firefighters from Allegany and Mineral counties responding to the Rawlings brush fire all around the same time City Cumberland firefighters responding to a house fire on Virginia avenue. Just after sunset Cumberland City firefighters dispatch to a control burn that was left unattended, that fire jumping to a nearby tree. Just when you thought the day was over a missing juvenile reported around 9:30 last night. Allegany County Emergency Services responding to McCoole area. Fire, Law Enforcement as well as wilderness Rescue team all on scene. That juvenile was located a short time later.

Outstanding job emergency service volunteers as well as employees and remember citizens please don't throw your cigarette butts out the window.
