The State of Maryland is actively buying out jobs from its employees in an attempt to cut over $120 million in spending. This comes after a hiring freeze that went into effect July 1. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel sees the buyout move as a short-term solution but shows clearly the financial health of the state…
“Two years ago you were saying we’re going to hire so many more people in state government. You’re all getting a raise and we’re just going to bring on thousands of new people. You were saying that anybody let go by the federal government – we’re going to find a place for you – we need you here in Maryland. And now today we’re saying you got to leave, we don’t have any space for you. We’re cutting back on the number of our employees.”
