Burglary Arrest Made

On July 28, 2012 at approximately 8:30 AM the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Centre Street United Methodist Church at 217 N. Centre Street for the report of a burglary.  Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male running from the side of the building.  The suspect fled away from the officers but they were able to take him into custody after a brief foot chase. 

James Michael Disque, age 23 of Anne Arundel County, was identified as the suspect by a victim at the scene.  Disque allegedly entered the church through an exterior window.  He then damaged property and stole currency.  While inside, Disque was confronted by church staff that had arrived to check the building.  Disque, then armed with scissors, demanded money and surveillance tapes from the church staff but they said that the police had been called and Disque fled. 

Disque was found to have active arrest warrants from Anne Arundel County.  He was charged locally with Burglary 2nd Degree, Burglary 4th Degree, Attempted Armed Robbery (2 counts), Theft less than $100, Malicious Destruction of Property less than $500, Assault 2nd Degree (2 counts, and resisting arrest.  Disque was taken to Allegany District Court for an initial appearance and was held on $100,000 bond on the local charges.  Disque will also be detained until Anne Arundel County authorities can take custody

On Friday, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to a residence on Springdale Street for a reported Burglary.  Officers obtained a description of the suspect who had been observed kicking the door to a residence in efforts to gain entry. The suspect fled and was located at a business on Virginia Avenue where he was observed by officers causing a disturbance. Kelly Edgar Cole, age 35 of Cumberland was placed in custody and charged with burglary and numerous charges, currently being held on $5,000.00 dollar bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
