Cardin Takes Lead on Foreign Relations Committee

September 29th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Maryland US Senator Ben Cardin is taking the reins of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee following the indictment of New Jersey Senator Bob Melendez on federal corruption charges.  This is the second time that Melendez has had to step away from the chair position due to bribery allegations. Cardin, who has announced he is retiring at the end of this current term, has been a member of the Foreign Relations Committee since 2007 when he first joined the Senate. Cardin issued a statement saying, “I intend to continue my longstanding work to ensure that human rights, anti-corruption and good governance are woven into America’s foreign policy.”
