On Thursday, March 28 at approximately 6:00 P.M., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Oldtown Road near Wempe Drive. The investigation revealed that a 6 year old juvenile male was walking on the sidewalk with his father. The 6 year old child walked off of the sidewalk and out into Oldtown Road at which time he was struck by a vehicle. The child’s father was on the scene and confirmed the above events. The operator of the vehicle advised that she was traveling on Oldtown Road and all of a sudden the child walked out into the roadway. She applied her brakes immediately but was unable to stop before colliding with the child. The Cumberland Fire Department arrived on the scene to treat the child. He was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The child was found to be at fault for the crash due to entering the roadway in an unsafe manner.

On Friday November 8, 2013, at 6:26 pm, Cumberland City Police Officers along with members of the Cumberland City Fire Department responded to the area of Arch Street and East Oldtown Road in reference to a child that was struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival ambulance tended to the child that sustained a foot injury. Officers made contact with Nicole Bright, age 29 of Cumberland, who was driver of the vehicle. Investigation revealed that while Bright was travelling on Oldtown Road the child attempted to across the street and ran in front of Bright’s vehicle. Bright was unable to stop in time and struck the child. The child was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Center for a foot injury. A check of Bright’s driving status revealed that her driver’s license was suspended in Maryland. Bright was issued a traffic citation and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court. The vehicle was released to a valid driver
