City Council may nix the idea of adding a splash pad at Constitution Park

With a price tag now much higher than originally projected- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council may be ready to nix the idea of adding a splash pad adjacent to the Constitution Park swimming pool. A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area for water play that has little or no standing water. The city began discussions on the concept earlier this year receiving an overview and design options from the engineering department. At one point the hope had been that construction could begin as early as this fall, with a projected opening next summer. The city received new costs estimates during Tuesday’s work session and those numbers have given pause to Mayor Ray Morriss. He said upgrades to make the park pool more appealing are already in the works and he isn’t certain how much a spash pad would bring to the table…
