City Likely to Retain RKG for Downtown Development

Cumberland city officials are utilizing a familiar source to update it’s economic development strategic plan. During this week’s city council work session, council members and representatives of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation discussed retaining RKG Associates of Alexandria Virginia for the job- the same firm that developed the original comprehensive plan seven years ago. That 2014 plans led to the creation of the CEDC and outlined preliminary plans for the Rolling Mill project; Willowbrook Road corridor; Canal Place and the downtown mall.  The price tag for the updated plan will be $30,000. $10,000 of that will be covered by a federal grant, with the remainder coming from the CEDC budget.  Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss said using the same firm has some obvious benefits- most notably a familiarity with the city…
