On August 24, 2016 at approximately 3:51 AM the Cumberland Police responded to a residence on Maplewood Lane in reference to a disturbance. Multiple calls were received advising of someone yelling and glass breaking. Officers were able to locate the disturbance when Steven Joshua Self threw a large piece of wood in the street. Self then began screaming profanities at the officers. Officers attempted to place Self under arrest, but he resisted and struck an officer in the face. Once Self was taken into custody he was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The officer was not injured during the incident. Charges were filed on Self and a criminal summons was issued. Self was served with the summons on August 31, 2016, charging him with 2nd Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Littering, and released pending trial in District Court.

On Friday at 6:14am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 800blk of Elmwood Lane in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers contacted the parties involved. Investigation revealed that an argument had taken place which turned physical. Officers were able to observe minor injury to the victim that did not require medical attention. As a result officers placed 22 year old Rufus Thompson III under arrest. Thompson was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was processed and charged with one count of second degree assault. Thompson was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.
