May 19, 2023
Adult arrest
On May 19, 2023 at approximately 6:26pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a shoplifting call at 35 Queen City Drive, Family Dollar. Officers made contact with Shannon Hewlin. Hewlin was placed under arrest and issued a Criminal Citation for theft less than $100 dollars and released.

CHARGE: Theft less than $100 dollars

Adult arrest
On May 19, 2023 officers with the Cumberland Police Department served an active arrest warrant on Ashley Nicole Royer. Royer was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting bond hearing.

Adult arrest
On May 19, 2023 officers with Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop. One of the occupants in the vehicle had a protective order against the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Scarlett Eva Williams. Williams was placed under arrest for violation of the protective order. Williams was transported to Allegany County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Adult Arrest
On May 20, 2023 officers with the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Harrison Street. A free air K-9 scan was conducted on the vehicle with a positive alert. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Adam Lee Shipway. Shipway had two active arrest warrants through the County. Shipway was placed under arrest. During the search, incident to arrest, Shipway was in possession of methamphetamine. Shipway was issued a criminal citation and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where Shipway was served both arrest warrants.

CHARGE: Possession of Methamphetamine, two Arrest Warrants served.

Adult Arrest

On May 20, 2023 officers with the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic Stop on Harrison Street at Mechanic Street. Officers contacted the driver, Michael Scott Alburtis. Officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle and Alburtis breath. A Field Sobriety Test was conducted and based off the officer’s observations Alburtis was placed under arrest for DUI/DWI. Alburtis was taken back CPD headquarters, issued all proper paperwork, and released.
