The Cumberland Mayor and City Council agreed to increase utility rates in Fiscal Year 2026 during last night’s open work session. Though the City’s General Fund Budget yields a $405,000 unassigned fund balance surplus for Fiscal Year 2026, increasing the utility rates now will combat future losses. Trash rates are expected to increase 73% and water rates will increase by 20%. Sewer and property tax increases are not under consideration.
