Maryland’s superintendent of schools said last week that she believes students should start returning to the classrooms for in-person instruction following the holiday break. The Allegany County Board of Education is expected to take action at it’s first meeting in January on whether or not to continue with all virtual learning, or return to a hybrid format and a gradual return to school for students. Given that Allegany County still has among the worst COVID-19 numbers in the state- and surges projected to continue at least through the early part of the new year- it seems unlikely kids will be back in school next month. During the most recent board meeting, student member Mitchell Septoff said most students he has spoken to, while frustrated with the limitations of virtual learning, are leary of returning to the classroom at this time…
