The County United Way received part of a $7 million dollar community grant from CareFirst in an effort to combat diabetes. Along with other Allegany County groups and the Appalachian Farm and Food Alliance, CUW received almost $120,000. Director Michele Walker says the funds will provide food from local farms to those with specific health challenges…
“What they will be doing is they will be holding food distributions throughout Allegany and Garrett County, and they will provide fresh vegetables and fruits to those people hoping to reduce the number of diabetics or help the number of diabetics eat healthier.”
