Cumberland Man Arrested for Threat of Mass Violence on Seymour Street

On November 23rd, 2022 at approximately 3:00 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 600 block of Industrial Boulevard for a male subject with a firearm threatening employees. The victims in this incident were able to identify the male as Devone Baskin, who officers knew to have had an active Arrest Warrant. The victims advised that Baskin had fled the area. Officers were able to locate Baskin who was still in possession of the firearm and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers pursued Baskin over several streets repeatedly ordering him to surrender and to drop the firearm, but he continued to flee and disregard the officer’s commands. Officers were able to apprehend Baskin in the 200 block of Seymour Street without further incident. After Baskin’s apprehension officers discovered the firearm used in this incident was a realistic airsoft handgun. Baskin was later taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond.

Arrest: Devone Theodore Baskin Jr, age 22, Cumberland Maryland.
Charges: Threat of Mass Violence, Six Counts of Assault 1st Degree, Four Counts of Obstructing and Hindering, Two Counts of Fail to Obey. Violation of Probation.
