Cumberland city write off just over $28,000 in business property tax deb

One of the consent orders on the agenda of the Cumberland Mayor and Council meeting Tuesday was to write off just over $28,000 in business property tax debt.  Most of the debt is over 7 years old, making it not collectible by law.  Mayor Ray Morriss on the Dave Norman show Wednesday morning noted that there is a larger outstanding tax amount that is collectible.  The City of Cumberland now has a plan in place and will be getting more aggressive about collecting those back taxes from local businesses.

The Mayor also stated that some of the outstanding tax debt is not from sources that are uncollectible, but rather they have not made the payments for what they owe.
