Cumberland Man Facing 2nd Degree Attempted Murder Charges

On Tuesday at approximately 2:26am officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to an Independence Street residence for a domestic assault in progress.

Upon the arrival of officers, they made contact with a male subject carrying a screwdriver near the front door to the residence.  Officers identified that male as Charles Roger Clark II, who resides at the incident location.  Upon making contact with a female inside the residence officers learned that an assault did occur.  The female victim had several injuries and was in need of medical assistance due to the injuries.  Officers learned that Clark had struck the victim and attempted to choke her prior to their arrival.

The Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance was summoned to the scene to assist the victim with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers spoke with additional witnesses and processed the incident scene prior to placing Clark under arrest.  He was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  During a search, incident to arrest officers located suspected crack cocaine on Clark’s person.

Clark was later taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond.
