Cumberland man facing theft charges

December 1st, 2018 by WCBC Radio

On Friday,  the Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Melissa Davis, age 38 of Cumberland.  The Summon stemmed from a September 9, 2018 incident where items were stolen from a business on Bedford St.  The investigation into the theft revealed Davis entered the store and attempted to purchase several items.  Once her payment method did not work she quickly grabbed the bag of items and fled the store. Officers investigating the theft were able to identify Davis as the suspect by using closed circuit TV recordings from inside the business.  Subsequently, the investigating officer applied for charges in District Court, and a Criminal Summons was issued charging Davis with Theft under $100.  Davis was served with the Criminal Summons and released pending trial.

Melissa is a rare name for a man. Perhaps it is what led him to a life of crime.
