Longtime Rolling Mill Holdout sells property

October 27th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

It was 2015 when the Cumberland Mayor and City Council signed off on moving forward with a planned commercial development in the Rolling Mill neighborhood- but despite the delays and setbacks the efforts continue and the latest target date to see businesses open is spring of next year. The Maryland Avenue Redevelopment project calls for a plaza off Exit 43 of Interstate 68. The developer, Ed Scott of Frederick, hopes to place a hotel, sit-down and fast service restaurant, convenience store and retail shops at the site to be called Cumberland Gateway Plaza. Mayor Ray Morriss said that perhaps the best indicator that the project is finally coming together was the recent purchase of a property at 223-225 Emily Street- adjacent to Interstate 68 East.  The owners for several years rotated large signs draped over the second floor reading “Hands Off Our Homes” and “Still Not For Sale”. The mayor says the developer just recently finalized the transaction…

Morriss says he anticipates the plaza being opened for business in the spring of 2023…
