Cumberland Police Make Warrant & Assault Arrests

On May 28, 2019, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on 32 year old Ashton Renea Hite of Uniontown, PA.  The charges stemmed from Hite failing to appear in District Court on August 16, 2018, for an original charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  Hite was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where she was held without bond pending her appearance in District Court.

Charges:  Failure to Appear:  Possession of a controlled dangerous substance

 

Arrest Warrant Served

On May 28, 2019, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on 35 year old Paul Luther Kennedy of Cumberland, MD.  The charges stemmed from Kennedy failing to register as a sex offender.  Kennedy was taken to the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held with bond.

Charges:   2 counts of sex offender failing to register

 

Assault

On May 28, 2019, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence on W. Oldtown Rd for report of an assault.  Once on scene, officers made contact with the victim who had visible signs of injury.  Upon further investigation, it was learned that the victim had been assaulted that evening and continued to be assaulted throughout the night into the morning.  Officers made contact with the suspect, who was identified as 24 year old Micah Vincent Cheeves of Cumberland, MD.  Cheeves was placed under arrest and taken to the District Court Commissioner’s Office for his initial appearance.  Cheeves was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held without bond.

On Sunday, August 6, 2017, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Nathan Herrell.  The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on August 5, 2017.  On this date at approx. 10:00 PM, officers were dispatched to an apartment at Fort Cumberland Homes in reference to an assault.  It was reported that Herrell had assaulted a juvenile at the residence.  Herrell had already fled the area.  Police were told that Herrell had become enraged and strangled the victim.  Charges were filed at the District Court of Allegany County and an arrest warrant was issued.  Herrell was later arrested and served.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.

CHARGES:  Child Abuse-2nd Degree (Custodial), Assault-2nd Degree

ASSAULT/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY ARREST

On Sunday, August 6, 2017 at approximately 2:00 PM, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Massachusetts Avenue residence for an assault/destruction of property complaint. Police contacted the victim who reported that he had an argument with the suspect, Tyele Powell.  He stated that Powell pushed him and destroyed two of his cameras and his television.  The damage was estimated at approximately $9,000.  Powell was located a few streets over from the residence and placed under arrest.  Powell was transported to police headquarters and processed.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
