On October 28, 2023, at 1:40 am the Cumberland Police Department received a report of a shooting in an alley in the Mechanic Street area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with one 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began providing medical aid along with the Cumberland Fire Department; however, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Responding CPD officers along with Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers from the Maryland State Police and Detectives from The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit began conducting the investigation. Eventually, 3 additional gunshot victims associated with this incident arrived at the hospital. These additional victims were between the ages of 20 and 24 and had non life-threatening injuries.
Investigation is ongoing at the time of this press release no arrests have been made.
The Cumberland Police is aware that this incident occurred in a crowded area with many potential witnesses and is asking for the public’s help.
