On June 27, 2019 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 621 Maryland Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon the officer’s arrival, they made contact with Chelsy Rose Wilt, a male resident and a female victim. During an investigation into the matter, officers learned from the victim that she came to the residence with the male tenant. When she arrived, Ms. Wilt yelled at her to get out of the residence. Wilt, who was unprovoked, picked up a knife from the kitchen and began to walk toward the victim. The victim told officers that she produced a pepper shot, pepper spray canister and sprayed Ms. Wilt. After Wilt was sprayed the male resident stepped in and took the knife off Wilt. Officers were able to confirm the victim’s details of the incident with a witness at the scene. As a result of this incident, Ms. Wilt was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing. Wilt was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner. Wilt was later released on her own personal recognizance.

Charges: 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Assault.

On March 28, 2019 at 8:16 pm, the Cumberland Police Department responded to 30 block of West First Street for a domestic assault. Upon arrival officers learned that Rachel Whorton, age 31 of Cumberland, MD, and the victim had been arguing. Officers further learned that the argument escalated into a physical altercation and Whorton assaulted the victim. While speaking with both parties, officers observed injuries consistent with the victim being assaulted by Whorton. Subsequently, Whorton was placed under arrest and charged with second degree assault. Whorton was later transported for her Initial Appearance and released on her own recognizance.
