On Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Jakela Tonice Watkins, 34, of Cumberland MD. Watkins was wanted on seven outstanding warrants issued by both the Circuit and District Courts of Allegany County. Three bench warrants issued by the Circuit Court allege Watkins failed to appear for a trial, violated the terms of her probation, and violated the conditions of pre-trial release, respectively. A fourth Bench warrant alleged Watkins failed to appear for trial in District Court on a previous m/v theft charge.
The fifth warrant was issued for an incident that occurred on December 3rd, 2023. During that incident, it is alleged that Watkins assaulted two subjects at a Maryland Ave home while trying to retrieve some of her stored belongings. When police responded, it was discovered that her belongings also contained a large amount of suspected crack cocaine.
The sixth warrant was also issued in reference to the incident on December 3rd when it was later discovered by officers that Watkins had driven to the home with a suspended and revoked driver’s license. It was also discovered that the motor vehicle she had been operating had been previously reported stolen out of Springfield, West Virginia.
The seventh, and final warrant, had been issued for in incident that had occurred on December 27th, 2023, at a residence on West Second St in Cumberland. During that incident, it is alleged that Watkins illegally entered the residence and assaulted the two residents, causing injury and damaging property inside. Watkins then stole a cell phone prior to fleeing the home.
At the time of her arrest on the aforementioned warrants, Watkins was also found to be in possession of an amount of suspected crack cocaine to which she was issued a Criminal Citation for.
At this time, Watkins has been remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where she is currently being held without bond.
